Going to the Chapel?

by Big Cedar Lodge 28. June 2013 10:52

This week, Big Cedar Lodge would like to introduce JoAnna Stribling, Wedding Coordinator at Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. JoAnna is not only wonderful helping couples plan their special day--she is also planning her own! This is what JoAnna had to say about her experiences as a Wedding Coordinator:

As the Wedding Coordinator at Dogwood Canyon I have been blessed to meet some very awesome people and share their special day with them. I am proud to call a lot of them friends, and keep in touch with them after their weddings, and to hear when they are expecting their first born and how their families are doing! It is exciting to watch each and every wedding because they are all very different, even if it is in the same intimate little chapel. I too will be getting married at Dogwood Canyon this September and can’t wait to walk down the aisle and say “ I Do” to my best friend, as I have seen over 80 other brides do in the last 2 years! It is touching to see the emotions and tears, and watch the parents give their children away and the joy that all weddings bring. Dogwood Canyon holds a very special place in my heart, and I would love to share Dogwood Canyon with you too! To find out more about Dogwood Canyon Weddings please contact me at jlstribling@dogwoodcanyon.org.

Thank you, JoAnna for all your hard work!  And we should also mention, JoAnna was our Associate of the Month for May.  Don't hesitate to contact her with any questions about your up-and-coming wedding.  She can help make your Dogwood Canyon wedding picture perfect!

Welcome Our June Horse of the Month, Amigo!

by Big Cedar Lodge 19. June 2013 15:46

Our June Horse of the Month is an Appaloosa horse named Amigo! Amigo came to us in April 2011 through Casey Trost, a wrangler at the stables. Before becoming a trail horse, Amigo was used for roping and other rodeo sports. Amigo not only goes on the hour trail rides at Dogwood Canyon, but is a great cattle drive horse as well as a fun horse for the advanced ride! Next time you come to Dogwood Canyon Stables, be sure to meet Amigo!!

April's Horse of the Month: Bandit

by Big Cedar Lodge 12. April 2013 15:28

Our April Horse of the Month is Bandit! Be sure to request him next time you go on a trail ride at Dogwood Canyon. He is a great horse that can do almost anything: trail rides, cattle drives, and advanced rides!  We are lucky enough to have a picture of Bandit when he just a young foal.  He's 17 years old now and still as handsome as he was back then!  He's always ready for a trail ride so come say hello.

A New Construction Project at Big Cedar Lodge

by Big Cedar Lodge 9. November 2012 14:16

There’s a lot of construction going on at Big Cedar Lodge—the Garden Chapel, the Big Cedar Spa, and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Academy are all set to open sometime next year; however, there’s one construction project underway that will be completed within the week… The Giant Gingerbread House!

Every year since 1998, Big Cedar associates have constructed a Giant Gingerbread House.  There have been many structures assembled including replicas of The Worman House, Truman Coffee and Café, Big Cedar Cabins, a life size fireplace, a Santa boat, and a Christmas sleigh.  This year’s construction is a two-story replica of the Garden Chapel, Big Cedar’s newest upcoming wedding venue.

Associates from the bakery department and restaurants have been working around the clock to assemble the edible creation by the end of the week.  Every piece of gingerbread is hand baked and hand laid into place, giving a spicy aroma to the entire Registration area.  Buckets of icing and sheets of confectionary siding will soon combine with assorted candies to complete the design.

To watch the construction progress, stop by the Registration Building.  No need to bring a hard hat, but you might leave with a sweet tooth!

Let’s Talk Conservation!

by Big Cedar Lodge 24. August 2012 10:58

What Big Cedar Lodge activity happens every day, involves every guest and associate, and requires no special skills, time, or energy? The answer is RECYCLING! Without our knowledge, each person that works or plays on the Lodge property is taking part in an effort to help the environment through composting, recycling, conservation, and preservation.

According to Landscape Manager, Dennis Goodnight, “We are environmentally friendly, and we do everything we can to work with guests and associates to recycle—the more stuff we can pull, the less goes to landfills.” Collection bins are placed around the resort for glass, plastic, paper and aluminum; but did you know food scraps, ashes, and plants are composted and used to grow the beautiful gardens around the property?

Rick Weltch, Recycling Coordinator, has the not-so-glamorous job of hand sorting all the collected materials, but that doesn’t bother him a bit. He’s been recycling since before recycling was cool. At the age of six, he was picking up bottles and cans and returning them for deposit money. “I didn’t realize I was recycling back then, but that’s what it was,” he explains. As an outdoorsman, he appreciates the green-friendly atmosphere at Big Cedar Lodge. He believes “This is a resort-wide team effort, everyone is taking a small part, and it continues to get better and better!”

So far this year Big Cedar Lodge has recycled almost 35 tons of cardboard, over 3 tons of plastic and tin, and almost 10 tons of glass. So the next time you place a bottle in a bin, or leave some veggies on your plate; remember, whatever can be recycled…will be recycled! And Big Cedar Lodge Associates also volunteer monthly at the Branson Recycle facility— because we know, we all live downstream!
