by Big Cedar Lodge 12. April 2013 15:28

Our April Horse of the Month is Bandit! Be sure to request him next time you go on a trail ride at Dogwood Canyon. He is a great horse that can do almost anything: trail rides, cattle drives, and advanced rides!  We are lucky enough to have a picture of Bandit when he just a young foal.  He's 17 years old now and still as handsome as he was back then!  He's always ready for a trail ride so come say hello.

A Note From Friends

by Big Cedar Lodge 13. February 2013 09:52

Dear Big Cedar Lodge,

Thank you for the opportunity to share our wonderful experience at Big Cedar Lodge.  We loved the entire resort, how well thought out it is and how it absolutely has something for everyone.  We truly enjoyed the décor with all of the animal mounts and rustic charm.  It was quite evident that you truly care about those clients who stay with you and want to make them feel as welcome and comfortable as possible in this “home away from home” environment.  We enjoyed the horse-drawn carriage ride and the driver was so personable and knowledgeable.  Dogwood Canyon was breathtaking!  As fellow business owners, we admire and appreciate the use of the Big Cedar logo in everything from the wrought iron railings to the entertainment centers to the cookies left in our room each night.  We are excited to come back because there is so much more that we want to see and do “next time,” which we hope will be very soon!

Thanks for providing such a first class resort for everyone to enjoy!

Load Up the Wagon, It's Time for the Holiday Light Tours!

by Big Cedar Lodge 15. November 2012 12:19

There is something inherently Christmas about loading up in a horse drawn hitch wagon decorated in holiday greenery, and heading out to view the Big Cedar Christmas lights. I had the opportunity to take my first Holiday Wagon Light Tour this week, and I know it will be a part of my holiday traditions for years to come.

From the moment we climbed into the wagon, I felt like I was entering a Currier & Ives Christmas card. I recommend dressing warmly, but each wagon carries enough blankets to warm the toes of every guest.  Before we left the loading area, we had snuggled into our seats and were comfortably awaiting the ride ahead.

The tour took us by the many beautifully decorated Big Cedar buildings and cabins.  Looking up the hillside, Falls Lodge, Grandview, and Springs Lodge shimmered in the crisp night air.  But it wasn’t just the sights that made the ride so memorable.  From the clip-clop of hooves, to the smell of fresh hay, to the pitch of the wagon as we made our way throughout the property; every sensory element said “The Holidays are Here… Enjoy!”

Our wagon included a couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary and a couple who had planned a quick stop at Big Cedar, but after one day, they changed their plans to a week-long vacation stay.   Also in our hitch, we met a young couple who were regulars to the Lodge, but had brought their baby daughter for her first Holiday Light tour.  Each of us from different places and walks of life, but together we made a lasting holiday memory as we exchanged names, stories, and Big Cedar anecdotes.

We unloaded from the wagons at the bonfire site in front of Truman Coffee and Café.  There, we sang Christmas songs with the Singin’ Cowboy, drank hot chocolate, and roasted S’mores over a blazing campfire.   The evening was complete as the last verse of “Silent Night” lingered above the holiday carolers… Currier & Ives couldn’t have designed a better ending to a more beautiful night!

A New Construction Project at Big Cedar Lodge

by Big Cedar Lodge 9. November 2012 14:16

There’s a lot of construction going on at Big Cedar Lodge—the Garden Chapel, the Big Cedar Spa, and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Academy are all set to open sometime next year; however, there’s one construction project underway that will be completed within the week… The Giant Gingerbread House!

Every year since 1998, Big Cedar associates have constructed a Giant Gingerbread House.  There have been many structures assembled including replicas of The Worman House, Truman Coffee and Café, Big Cedar Cabins, a life size fireplace, a Santa boat, and a Christmas sleigh.  This year’s construction is a two-story replica of the Garden Chapel, Big Cedar’s newest upcoming wedding venue.

Associates from the bakery department and restaurants have been working around the clock to assemble the edible creation by the end of the week.  Every piece of gingerbread is hand baked and hand laid into place, giving a spicy aroma to the entire Registration area.  Buckets of icing and sheets of confectionary siding will soon combine with assorted candies to complete the design.

To watch the construction progress, stop by the Registration Building.  No need to bring a hard hat, but you might leave with a sweet tooth!

Big Cedar-Little Details: Come Make Your Dreams Come True

by Big Cedar Lodge 3. October 2012 16:15
Here's a note about what makes Big Cedar Lodge special. Come make your dreams come true!

I know that I filled out that evaluation form, but I don't feel that I was truly able to say all the wonderful things I would like to say about your resort and your staff.

We have been visiting Big Cedar for many years and I have wanted to get married there since as early as I can remember. From the very beginning and the first meeting with Leah, it has been an absolute dream for me. From the second that we checked into the resort, everyone from the people checking us in, the people at the marina, and the housekeeping staff, all said hi and wanted to make sure that we were taken care of.

The actual day of the dinner rehersal and wedding, it rained and changed all of our plans, but Leah, Tim and Dustin, truly took care of us and made the best of the situtaion. As the bride I was so upset about the rain, but now that it is all over with I would not change a minute of it and that is due to the staff that made it exactly what we wanted even with the rain. The staff and the security that was all involved with the reception was all so respectful and truly made the night so special for us. They all seemed to truly care about us and our guests to have the best time.

Most of our guests had never been to Big Cedar or even to the area because we are out of state and they all had the best things to say about the resort. Even with the rain, they all said how beautiful it was. Actually we have had several of our guests say that they will be planning family trips there because they know that their children will truly enjoy the resort also.

Also the night before the wedding, a lot of guests were at the Buzzard Bar and that staff was soo awesome with everyone. We actually had one of the staff telling us all the history of the resort, and many of the guest truly enjoyed that. I just cannot say enough good things about the staff and the rersort. They are all amazing and I am so truly thankful to all of them for making our wedding day and dream come true. We cannot wait to have children and be able to bring our family there and have Tim and Dustin take our family photos!!

In ending, Leah Hardin was so truly amazing, and I know that our day was so perfect because of her. There are NO words to say my thanks to her and how truly wonderful she is. Thank you to you and all of your staff. We now have the best memories of our wedding and that can never be changed. Also my parents surprised us with a firework show and when many of us got back to our rooms there were messages about it for the guests on the resort to watch, and we loved that. It was so great for us, and we are so glad that the other guests on the resort knew about it and could enjoy it also.

Thank you so much,
Elena and Ryan Rossiter

Treat Your Legs to Something Special

by Big Cedar Lodge 7. August 2012 09:40

Our legs get us out of bed in the morning, support us all day, and carry us back to bed at night; but how often do we treat them to something special?  The Spas at Big Cedar Lodge has the perfect solution—the Firming Leg Treatment—available at both the Carriage House and Lakeside Spa locations.  According to Mary Bendure, one of the spa’s licensed Massage Therapists, the treatment “rejuvenates, promotes leg vein health, and aids the lymphatic system” through improved circulation.

The therapy begins with an Almond and Mineral Treatment, from Eminence Organic Skin Care, that gently exfoliates the skin.  Warm towels are then placed around your legs, allowing the moist heat to nourish and relax your muscles.  After removing the towels, dead skin cells are gently sloughed off leaving your skin soft and supple.  The paprika included in the treatment, stimulates and oxygenates the skin, while tightening pores and giving an overall invigorating glow.

Next, Mary applies Lychee & Chestnut Firming Leg Treatment, also by Eminence.  This immunity-boosting leg cream not only relieves tired, aching legs; it also reduces the visible signs of varicose veins.  The treatment contains horse chestnut and butcher’s broom, which work together to improve circulation and stimulate blood flow.  The product is a winner of the Day Spa Editor’s Choice award, and after experiencing the treatment, I can understand why.

Let’s face it, the continued high temperature has everyone looking for an excuse to step indoors and savor the comfort of a cool spot.  From the moment the Spa doors open, the calm and relaxing atmosphere will make you want to stay all day.  And with all the different services available, you can!  If you haven’t been to the Spa, stop in and let one of our talented therapists or Barbara, the Spa Manager, find the perfect product, therapy, or treatment for you.

The Firming Leg Treatment is the perfect respite to your day.  Give those tired, swollen legs what they need—some special care and attention.  You've got legs, and you know how to use them... Let the Spas at Big Cedar Lodge pamper them!
