Meet Ben, Big Cedar Lodge's Horse of the Month

by Big Cedar Lodge 1. February 2013 10:41

Name: Ben

Approximate age: 15

Breed: Percheron/Paint Cross

Purchase date: 1999, by previous stables manager, and current Buzzard Bar entertainer, Clay Self. Ben was approximately 2 years old when purchased. He was purchased as a riding horse, but kept getting bigger and bigger, so he got moved up to being a wagon horse, then trained to pull the carriage.

Favorite Treats: apples, carrots, and marshmallows

Behaviors: Ben is a very athletic horse, he likes to work. He is a carriage horse on BCL property. Occasionally you will find him paired up with Willy, one of our Belgium horses and pulling a wagon. Ben is a very friendly horse and loves to have his picture taken; in fact, he will even pose when you say his name. He spends most of his time hanging out with our miniature Shetland pony, Goober. They are best friends, or should we say, best trouble makers J

Ben is a favorite horse among our wranglers…..except when it comes to bath time! With all that white on him, he is really hard to get clean! He is also a favorite among our guests because of his unique coloring and great disposition.  He has pulled the carriage for many weddings, some even at DWC. Ben is our February Horse of the Month!!  Stop by and have your picture taken with Ben, and kids will receive a special surprise.
